Agostinho Benedito de Almeida Sequeira (1998) started his Percussion studies in 2013 in the Metropolitana music school, Lisbon, with Marco Fernandes, Andreu Rico and Miguel Herrera. Since 2016, Agostinho studies at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam with Nick Woud, Arnold Marinissen, Peter Prommel, Rachel Zhang, Richard Jansen, Marijn Korff de Gidts, Ramon Lormans, Bence Major Mark Braafhart and Laurent Warnier. In the past year, he participated in an Erasmus program in the Conservatoire Superieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon.

 

In 2020, he was the Winner of the Tromp Percussion Competition, receiving also the audience prize and the Jan Pustjens press prize. He won the first prize in the 30th edition of the “Young Musician competition” in the category of percussion solo, and was later acclaimed as the Portuguese Young Musician of the year.

 

Agostinho already performed as soloist concerti with the foremost symphony orchestra in Portugal, the Gulbenkian orchestra, the Metropolitana wind orchestra, the Metropolitana Symphony orchestra, the Orquestra Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In these concerts, he performed the “Percussion Concerto” of Jennifer Higdon and “Speaking Drums” Concerto by Peter Eotvos.

 

In 2014, he won, as member of the Percussion Duo from Metropolitana, the 1st prize in the competition “Young Musicians Contest” in Portugal and in 2015 as member of the Metropolitana Percussion trio, Agostinho won the 1st prize in the competition “21st Century Art competition for young performers” and was also awarded the 2nd prize in the “Tomarimbando” competition - category Marimba.

 

At age 17, he became a member of the Portuguese Youth Orchestra conducted by Pedro Carneiro. In 2016, Agostinho was awarded the 1st prize in the “1st International Percussion Competition from Beira Interior”. In 2017, he received a partial scholarship from the Jan Pustjens Foundation and in 2018, he won the first prize in the “Gondomar international percussion competition”

 

In 2019, he was admitted in ARD international music competition, reaching the 2nd round. Agostinho followed lessons and played in masterclasses with Pedro Carneiro, Keiko Abe, Jean Geoffroy, Jason Treuting, Christian Dierstein, Isao Nakamura, Anders Astrand, Vassilena Serafimova, Nancy Zeltsman, Momoko Kamiya, Marinus Komst, among others.
